Native to the Bolivian Andes, Cleistocactus strusii inhabits rocky slopes at 2000-3000 m elevation. This polycarpic species features slender, erect, branched stems and a rare nocturnal tubular flowering within its genus, distinguished by spine density and arrangement. Cylindrical stems 2-3 cm diameter, up to 1 m long, with 16-18 narrow ribs. Radial spines white, 8-10 per areole, 1-1.5 cm long, densely and evenly spaced. Light green color, shifting to grayish in winter.
Provide at least 6 hours of direct full sun daily. Water exclusively during spring-summer, allowing substrate to dry fully between irrigations. Use substrate with minimum 70% mineral content and excellent drainage. Minimum temperature 5°C; prevent waterlogging to avoid root rot.
