Cumulopuntia boliviana is native to the Bolivian Andes, inhabiting rocky slopes at elevations of 3000 to 4000 meters. It exhibits a polycarpic, densely branched shrubby growth. Unique among its genus for prominent tubercles and clusters of 3-5 unevenly spaced spines. Cylindrical stems 10-20 cm long, conical tubercles 5-8 mm, acuminate spines 1-2 cm in asymmetrical clusters. Glaucous green coloration with violet tinges during winter.
Full direct sunlight exposure. Watering restricted to active growth season, avoiding waterlogging. Substrate with at least 70% draining mineral content. Minimum temperature 5 °C. Root rot risk if overwatered.
