Dolichotele longimamma is native to mountainous areas of South Africa, primarily growing on granite rocky substrates. It is a monocarpic species with late flowering, characterized by elongated, prominent tubercles, distinguishing it from more compact congeners. Leaves are cylindrical, 8-12 cm long, arranged in an open rosette, green-grey with violet hues under water stress. Prominent longitudinal tubercles up to 3 cm in length run along the stem.
Requires full direct sunlight for a minimum of 6 hours daily. Watering reduced from autumn to spring, increased during active summer growth. Substrate composed of at least 70% mineral, well-draining material. Minimum temperature 5°C; root rot risk from waterlogging.
