Echinocactus texensis is native to southern Texas and northeastern Mexico, growing on calcareous, gravelly soils. It is a monocarpic species, flowering once before senescence. Notably, it features numerous thin radial spines distinguishing it within the Echinocactus genus. Globose stem up to 40 cm wide, with 13-17 prominent ribs. Thin radial spines 2-3 cm long densely arranged. Epidermis color ranges from blue-green to grayish during summer.
Requires full direct sun for minimum 6 hours daily. Watering limited to spring and autumn, preventing waterlogging. Substrate composed of at least 70% mineral content, neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Minimum temperature 5 °C. Root rot risk if overwatered.
