Native to Gabon's tropical forests, Euphorbia trigona rubra develops on sandy, well-drained soils near seasonal streams. It exhibits a perennial, erect, and branched growth habit, with red pigmentation on young stems—a distinctive trait within the Euphorbia genus. Erect cylindrical stems up to 2 m tall, bearing 3-5 cm wide triangular ribs with paired spines along edges. Young branches display intense red pigmentation, shifting to dark green as they mature.
Provide at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Water exclusively during spring and summer, ensuring complete substrate drying between irrigations. Use substrate with minimum 70% mineral content (pumice or coarse sand). Minimum temperature 10°C; prolonged waterlogging causes root rot.
