Ferocactus glaucescens is native to central Mexico, inhabiting limestone rocky slopes at 1500-2000 m elevation. Exhibits slow growth with a globose to elongated stem. Unlike other Ferocactus, it has a glaucous epidermis and robust spines, flowering multiple times during summer. Stem cylindrical-globose, 30-60 cm diameter, glaucous epidermis. 13-15 prominent ribs with 5-7 central spines up to 5 cm long, yellow-brown. Pale yellow flowers 5-6 cm, arise from apical areoles in summer.
Full direct sun exposure at least 6 hours daily. Water sparingly from spring to late summer, stop in winter. Substrate with minimum 70% mineral content, well-draining. Minimum temperature 5°C; prone to rot if waterlogged, avoid excess moisture.
