gymnocalycium ragonesei

Gymnocalycium ragonesei is native to Chaco province, Argentina, inhabiting calcareous and clayey soils on hilly slopes. It is a polycarpic species with globose stems up to 6 cm diameter. Notably, it features slender spines and early spring flowering within its genus. Globose stem 4-6 cm diameter, with 6-8 rounded ribs. Radial spines thin, 5-8 mm long, pale yellow. Spring flowering produces white flowers with petals 3-4 cm wide.

Full direct sunlight exposure; watering reduced from autumn to spring, increased in summer. Substrate with at least 70% mineral content, mandatory drainage. Minimum temperature 5 °C; sensitive to waterlogging causing root rot.
