Native to semi-arid regions of Madagascar, Kalanchoe tomentosa inhabits sandy soils and limestone rocks. It is a perennial, polycarpic species characterized by dense tomentose hairs, a distinguishing trait within the Kalanchoe genus. Spatulate leaves 5-8 cm long arranged in an open rosette; surface covered by silvery-grey tomentose hairs with brownish, dentate margins. Color shifts from greenish-grey to lighter tones during winter.
Full sun or bright partial shade exposure; watering reduced from autumn to spring, increased in summer. Substrate with minimum 70% mineral content, well-drained. Minimum temperature 8°C; vulnerable to root rot from waterlogging.
