Native to central Mexico, Mammillaria bocasana monstruosa inhabits calcareous rocky slopes. It is a fasciated mutation of the typical species, showing irregular growth and abnormal branching. It is polycarpic, with twisted stems reaching up to 15 cm tall. Fasciated cylindrical stems, 10-15 cm, with tubercles arranged in irregular spirals. White, thin spines 1-2 cm long, dense and interwoven. Light green coloration with yellowish tones during summer.
Full direct sun exposure for at least 5 hours daily. Water sparingly from spring to late summer, suspend watering in winter. Substrate with at least 70% mineral components, mandatory drainage. Tmin 41°F (5°C). Susceptible to root rot from waterlogging.
