Notocactus haselbergii is native to southern Brazil, inhabiting limestone rocky slopes at 500-900 m elevation. It exhibits a globose, clonal growth habit and is polycarpic. Unique within its genus for pronounced ribs and short-lived diurnal-nocturnal flowers. Globose body 8-12 cm diameter with 12-15 thick ribs. Radial spines thin, 10-15 mm, grouped in 6-8 per areole. Dark green with bluish hues intensified during winter. Flowers golden yellow, 3-4 cm diameter.
Full direct sunlight exposure minimum 6 hours daily. Watering limited to spring through late summer, avoiding waterlogging. Substrate with at least 70% mineral content, neutral pH. Minimum temperature 5°C. Root rot risk from overwatering.
