Notocactus leningausii hails from the rocky limestone slopes of southern Brazil's mountainous areas. This globose, eventually columnar, species is polycarpic. It is notable within its genus for prominent tubercles and numerous thin radial spines. Globose body up to 15 cm diameter with 15-20 pronounced ribs and prominent tubercles. Thin radial spines 1-2 cm long, pale yellow turning more intense in summer. Areoles spaced about 1 cm apart.
Full direct sun exposure for minimum 6 hours daily. Reduced watering from October to March, increased from April to September. Substrate with at least 70% mineral content for drainage. Minimum temperature 5 °C. Susceptible to waterlogging; avoid overwatering.
