Native to the rocky mountains of south-central Mexico, Pachyphytum compactum Purple Diamond thrives on volcanic rock substrates. It is a polycarpic species with compact growth and succulent leaves exhibiting intense purple pigmentation, distinguishing it from other genus members. Spatulate leaves 3-4 cm long arranged in very compact rosettes. Color shifts from gray-green to deep purple, intensified by direct sunlight and low temperatures.
Needs full sun exposure for a minimum of 6 hours daily. Watering reduced from autumn to spring; substrate must contain at least 70% mineral components. Minimum tolerated temperature around 5°C. Susceptible to root rot caused by waterlogging.
