Native to Mozambique’s coastal granite slopes, Pachypodium sundersii is a monocarpic species that flowers terminally before rosette senescence. It differs within the genus by its smooth bark and short, spiny, shrubby branches. Leaves linear, 5–10 cm long, arranged in a dense apical rosette. Dark green with glaucous hues fading under water stress.
Full sun exposure for minimum 6 hours daily. Watering halted in winter dormancy, gradually resumed in spring. Substrate with at least 70% mineral content (pumice, coarse sand). Minimum temperature 10°C; root rot risk from waterlogging.
