Pleiospilos nellii is a succulent native to the Western Cape of South Africa, typically found in rocky and sandy soils. It produces solitary, large flowers in spring. The species features thick, divided leaves and is often confused with Pleiospilos nelii, differing in leaf size and pattern. Opposite, fleshy leaves divided into two lobes with a rough, mottled surface, approximately 4-6 cm tall. Compact, clumping habit with leaves closing under stress. Solitary flowers are yellow-orange with numerous slender petals.
Requires full sun or bright filtered light. Use a well-draining, sandy-mineral substrate. Water sparingly, allowing soil to dry completely between irrigations. Minimum recommended temperature is 5°C; protect from prolonged frost.
