Native to the rocky slopes of the Himalayas, Senecio himalaiano thrives on siliceous substrates above 3000 m elevation. It is a polycarpic species with a bushy growth habit, notable within the genus for densely arranged cylindrical leaves and adaptations to extreme thermal fluctuations. Cylindrical leaves 3-5 cm long, tightly spiraled and compactly arranged, green-grey with waxy reflections intensifying during winter.
Full sun exposure with thermal fluctuations; reduced watering from autumn to spring; substrate containing at least 70% coarse sand and pumice; minimum temperature 5 °C; avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot.
