Native to the mountainous regions of Ethiopia, Senecio scaposus adoensis inhabits limestone rocky slopes between 1500 and 2500 meters elevation. It is a perennial species with an extended growth cycle, notable within the genus for its leafless scapose stems lacking persistent basal leaves. Leaves linear, 3-6 cm long, arranged in deciduous basal rosettes; scapose stems 20-40 cm tall, glabrous. Leaf color green-gray with silvery hues, fading during summer months.
Full sun exposure for minimum 6 hours daily; reduced watering from autumn to spring, increased during summer; substrate with at least 70% mineral content, neutral pH; minimum temperature 5 °C; prolonged waterlogging causes root rot.
