Senecio scaposus is native to the mountainous calcareous slopes of South Africa. It is a monocarpic species producing a solitary flowering scape up to 40 cm tall, distinguished by its cylindrical leaves and later flowering period compared to other Senecio species. Leaves are cylindrical, 5-10 cm long, arranged in a compact basal rosette; color is gray-green with slightly glaucous tips, darkening in winter.
Full direct sun exposure for at least 6 hours; watering restricted from late spring to late summer; substrate with 70% mineral content; minimum temperature 5 °C; susceptible to root rot from waterlogging.
