thephrocactus dactiliferus

Thephrocactus dactiliferus is native to central Andean regions of Argentina, inhabiting calcareous rocky soils at 1500-2500 m elevation. It is a polycarpic cactus with cylindrical segmented stems, uniquely exhibiting easily detachable segments aiding vegetative propagation. Cylindrical segmented stems 5-10 cm long, arranged in open clusters. Segments 2-3 cm diameter, glaucous green with bluish tones in summer. Areoles bear slender spines 1-2 cm long, aligned longitudinally.

Exposure to full morning sun and afternoon shade. Watering limited to active growth, avoiding waterlogging. Substrate with minimum 70% mineral content for drainage. Minimum temperature 5°C; prone to root rot if overwatered.
