Aloe pillansii is endemic to northwestern South Africa, primarily in the Richtersveld region. It inhabits rocky calcareous soils at low elevations. Characterized by an erect inflorescence with tubular orange-red flowers, it is a slow-growing, rare species with a shrubby habit and limited offset production. Shrubby habit with thick, rigid, lanceolate leaves in green-gray hues, edged with sparse teeth. Leaves can reach up to 50 cm, arranged in loose rosettes. The inflorescence is erect, bearing tubular orange flowers at maturity.
Requires full sun and a well-draining substrate with mineral components. Water moderately, allowing the soil to dry completely between irrigations. Minimum tolerated temperature around 5 °C; avoid prolonged frost exposure.
