Conophytum nilobum is native to the mountainous Karoo region of South Africa, thriving on exposed granite substrates. It is a monocarpic species with a winter growth cycle and summer dormancy. Notably, it features nearly fused ovoid leaves and lacks spines, distinguishing it within the genus. Leaves are ovoid, 10-15 mm long, arranged in nearly fused symmetrical pairs. Smooth surface, green-grey with violet tinges during winter. Minimal leaf tissue opening with rounded, spineless margins.

Provide bright filtered light, avoiding direct summer sun. Water only during winter growth, stop in summer dormancy. Use substrate with at least 70% mineral content for drainage. Minimum temperature 5°C. Susceptible to rot from waterlogging.
