Euphorbia pillansii is native to South Africa’s Western Cape coastal areas, thriving on sandy and gravelly soils. It is a monocarpic species producing unisexual flowers in cyclical inflorescences. Notably, it features cylindrical branches up to 2 cm thick and exudes dense white latex, a distinctive trait within its genus. Cylindrical stems 1.5–2 cm diameter, arranged loosely and irregularly. Gray-green color with bluish hues intensifying during summer. True leaves absent, replaced by small spines at branch tips.
Full sun exposure for minimum 6 hours daily. Watering halted in winter, gradually resumed in spring. Substrate composed of at least 70% mineral content (coarse sand and pumice). Minimum temperature 5°C; prone to root rot from waterlogging.
