Native to Mexico, Mammillaria gracilis 'Oruga' inhabits rocky limestone slopes. It is a clumping, polycarpic species with elongated narrow tubercles, an unusual trait within Mammillaria, which typically exhibits stouter tubercles. Clumping stems 5-8 cm long with narrow tubercles arranged spirally; thin white spines up to 1.5 cm. Light green epidermis shifting to grayish in summer as solar protection.
Place in full direct sun. Water from spring to early autumn, prevent waterlogging. Use substrate with minimum 70% mineral content for drainage. Minimum temperature 5°C. Root rot risk if overwatered.
