Native to coastal regions of South Africa, Portulacaria afra 'Mediopicta' thrives on rocky slopes with sandy soils. It is a polycarpic shrub distinguished within the genus by its central variegation on leaves, an uncommon trait for Portulacaria. Leaves oval, 5-8 mm thick, 15-25 mm long, featuring a longitudinal creamy central band; opposite, compact arrangement on slender twigs; bright green coloration with lighter tones under high light intensity.
Full sun exposure for minimum 6 hours daily; reduced watering from autumn to spring, increased in summer; substrate containing at least 70% mineral drainage components; minimum temperature 5°C; prone to root rot if waterlogged.
