Portulacaria afra variegata originates from coastal regions of South Africa, thriving on calcareous rocky substrates and sun-exposed slopes. It is a polycarpic species with branching growth and exhibits a stable variegation, an uncommon trait within the Portulacaria genus. Leaves ovate, 15-25 mm, oppositely arranged with slight overlap, margins irregularly variegated cream-white on light green; color contrast intensifies under strong light exposure.
Full direct sun exposure for minimum 6 hours; reduced watering during winter, increased in summer; substrate containing at least 70% draining mineral components; minimum temperature 5°C; prolonged waterlogging causes root rot.
