gymnocalycium horstii

Gymnocalycium horstii originates from the Misiones region in Argentina, inhabiting calcareous and clay soils on hilly slopes. It is a polycarpic species with a globose stem up to 8 cm diameter, notable for prominent ribs and thin spines, exhibiting a later flowering period than other genus members. Globose stem, 6-8 cm diameter, with 8-10 distinct ribs. Thin radial spines, 1-2 cm long, pale yellow. Dark green epidermis that darkens during summer.

Exposure to filtered or morning sun; watering reduced from October to March, increased in spring-summer. Substrate with at least 70% well-draining mineral content. Minimum temperature 8°C; sensitive to waterlogging causing root rot.
