Sempervivum 'Black' originates from selective hybridizations in Central Europe, thriving on calcareous rocky slopes. It is a polycarpic species forming rosettes that propagate through short stolons. Notably, it exhibits intense anthocyanin pigmentation uncommon among Sempervivum species. Compact rosettes 4-6 cm wide, spatulate leaves with entire margins, black-violet pigmentation intensifying in autumn. Leaves arranged tightly, surface slightly pubescent.
Full sun exposure for minimum 6 hours daily. Water sparingly from spring to late summer, avoiding waterlogging. Substrate with at least 70% mineral content, neutral pH. Minimum tolerance to -10 °C; prone to root rot in saturated soils.
