Stapelia hirsuta, native to South Africa, thrives on rocky limestone slopes. This polycarpic succulent features quadrangular stems covered with short stiff hairs, a distinctive trait within the Stapelia genus. Quadrangular stems 15-30 cm long, surface pubescent with stiff hairs 1-2 mm. Green-gray coloration with purple hues under full sun. Star-shaped flowers 8-12 cm, hairy and spotted surface.
Full sun exposure for minimum 6 hours daily. Watering restricted to spring through early autumn, allowing complete substrate drying between irrigations. Substrate with at least 70% mineral content, neutral pH. Minimum temperature 5 °C. Prolonged waterlogging causes root rot.
