Stapelia mutabilis hails from the coastal rocky slopes of South Africa, thriving on calcareous substrates. This polycarpic species features quadrangular succulent stems exhibiting seasonal color shifts, an uncommon trait within the Stapelia genus. Quadrangular stems, 15-30 cm long, loosely arranged; surface slightly papillose. Color ranges from olive green with purple hues in summer to reddish-brown during winter.
Provide filtered or morning sun exposure; water sparingly from autumn to spring. Use substrate with minimum 70% mineral content for drainage. Minimum temperature 7°C. Susceptible to waterlogging; ensure rapid drainage.
